About the ROCK Group

The R.O.C.K. Group is a group of agencies, businesses, and individuals dedicated to the protection of children and the support of families. We are the Chatham and Bryan County, Georgia, Chartered Council of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, the state affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse America. Most of our member agencies have been serving children and families in our community for decades.

To prevent child abuse and neglect by providing a coordinated community effort of prevention education and programming.

OUR PURPOSE

To lead, support, and coordinate citizens and professionals in an effort to end child abuse through volunteer, community-based prevention programs and increased public awareness.

THE VISION

* A united community of professionals, individuals, and parents dedicated to protecting and nurturing our children and eliminating reports of child maltreatment through physical, sexual, emotional abuse and child neglect.
* A student population equipped with knowledge and resources to protect themselves from abusive situations.
* A community that parents every child to ensure our children have safe, secure, and happy futures.
* The cycle of abuse broken — the violence inflicted upon our children eradicated.

What we do

First Steps Parents of Newborns Program
Hospital based, volunteer driven, parent support program. Trained volunteers called “parent coaches” visit new families in the hospital setting and provide emotional support, a gift pack of parent educational materials, and links to community resources. Volunteers follow up with the new family by phone for a minimum of three months. Since the program’s beginning in October 2003 over 4,000 families have been visited by First Steps parent coaches. Annual Events
*The Blue Ribbon Campaign for Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month each April. Planning starts in January and community volunteers are welcomed and needed.
* The Healing Field Flag Memorial in November. Full sized American flags are displayed by the hundreds in a dramatic presentation to honor our country, the military, and children. Kid Track: The DNA Child Safety/ID Program
The most comprehensive child safety and identification program offered in the community, provided at no cost to all parents. Families receive a child safety journal, a digital photograph, a DVD recording, and a home DNA kit for each child in the family. Dozens of educational publications assist parents in protecting their children and easing parental stresses. Over 1,000 families and 1,700 children have participated since the program’s creation in 2005. Corporate site sponsors welcomed.

For the Community
*Child Abuse 101 — General training on recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect.
*Speaker’s Bureau — Available for small group presentations to civic clubs, church groups, etc.
*Parent tips and parent workshops.
*Access to a toll-free, anonymous, and confidential Helpline available to all parents and caregivers of children — 1-800-CHILDREN

Stewards of Children-Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training
A program developed by Darkness 2 Light that teaches 4 tools and 7 steps of the prevention of child sexual abuse. We have joined with the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy to help train 1 million Georgians in this curriculum by 2020. Anyone who cares about children should attend this training. Training dates vary. Cost: $15 per person and continuing education credit is available for some professions. Register to attend a training TODAY!
