Visitor’s reflections on the Healing Field
We have had a lot of people and stop and take pictures of the event, but this photographer was generous enough to blog about it and share it with us. Thanks Jennings King for your thoughts and pictures. Jennings King’s Blog
For all the little angels
You never know who you will meet or the stories you will hear during our Healing Field event. Yesterday a simple “How are you?” stopped us in our tracks. A young man stepped out of his car and told us that his daughter had been murdered and he was there today to get a flag. What do you say to that? What are the right words? So we stumbled over our words and we explained that he could pull up a flag and take a pinwheel. He told us his 2 year old daughter had been killed while he was in Afghanistan by the mother’s boyfriend. When we asked if he would like to plant the pinwheel his wife suggested that his son be the one to do it. Out of car pops this sweet, lively little boy who wanted to pull all the flags off the field. Here he is planting the pinwheel. (Picture courtesy of his grandparents.) It was clear that the pain for this family was still very real even though the incident happened a year ago. … Continue reading
Journey from hurt to hope
This year the Healing Field will have a new instillation. Thanks to the generosity of a mother in the area, she has graciously decided to share her daughter and her family’s story of survival of child abuse. We will have her story displayed over a series of signs displayed at the field. Visitors will get experience her family’s story from before the abuse again, through the trial, recovery and learn how they are doing now. This is an AMAZING story that I hope everyone will come to field and experience. The bravery that this mother and daughter have shown throughout the ordeal is unbelievable and we are so honored that they will share their story with the community.
Thank you Crimestoppers Focus
Every time The ROCK Group is asked to come on Crimestoppers we are so excited. It is a wonderful radio show that generously gives an hour to a whole variety of wonderful organizations across the Coastal Empire. I think this was our best show to date. The first of many
Someone took the first step today and we received our first donation for our Healing Field event. We cannot tell you in words how much each and every donation we recive means to us. It means that we can provide a new mom with a tool kit on her road to parenthood. A little “goodie bag” full of information and resources to help that parent and family through ups and downs of the first few months of a new baby’s life. While we don’t give a parent an instruction manual, we think our First Steps Parent Pack and follow-up from our staff and volunteers is about as close as it can get!
Healing Field Collection Boxes
We are so excited about our upcoming Healing Field event. Our event will be nothing without our community’s support. One easy to help us is by requesting a collection box. This box can be placed in your office, at a meeting, or at a business. Every $50 raised from these boxes will be credited to you and you will be recognized with a pinwheel on our Healing Field. Remember every $50 raised will support our First Steps-Parents of Newborns program by providing a family with parent education materials. Get your box today!
New Look to our Website
After some blood, sweat, and tears are new site is up and we hope that it will help us stay more connected to the community. We plan on putting out updates more frequently and we hope you will contact us with any questions about our organization. Stay Tuned!
