First Steps Parents of Newborns Program
Hospital based, volunteer driven, parent support program. Trained volunteers called “parent coaches” visit new families in the hospital setting and provide emotional support, a gift pack of parent educational materials, and links to community resources. Volunteers follow up with the new family by phone for a minimum of three months. Since the program’s beginning in October 2003 over 4,000 families have been visited by First Steps parent coaches.
